How to add bullet points on LinkedIn (Mac & PC)

LinkedIn's experience editor has no bullet button — a bullet point is just the • character typed at the start of a line. Any of these three ways works; the layout rules below are what make recruiters read them.

On a Mac

Press Option + 8 — that types • on every Mac keyboard. Click into your LinkedIn experience description and start each line with it, one achievement per line.

On a Windows PC

Hold Alt and type 0149 on the numeric keypad, then release. No keypad? Press Win + . to open the symbol picker and search "bullet".

The zero-setup way

Copy the bullet from right here — • — and paste it at the start of each line. Bullets drafted in Notes, Word, or Google Docs survive the paste into LinkedIn unchanged.

Then lay them out so recruiters read them

One achievement per line, opened with a strong verb ("Led", "Grew", "Cut" — never "Responsible for"), kept to 1–2 lines each, strongest first. Three to five bullets on your current role, two to three on older ones — the scorer above grades exactly these signals, so paste your finished set in and check it.

See what the finished version looks like — before-and-after bullet rewrites for sales managers, data scientists, registered nurses, and web developers — 32 roles in all.

What the scorer checks

Verbs, not duties

"Responsible for" describes the job posting — it says nothing about you. Every bullet should open with a strong verb ("Led", "Grew", "Cut") and something you changed.

Numbers that prove it

A bullet without a number is a claim; a bullet with one is evidence. Team size, revenue, %, time saved — "cut onboarding 40%" gets read, "improved processes" gets skimmed.

Keywords in 1–2 lines

Named tools, platforms, and methods are what LinkedIn Recruiter filters on — and each bullet gets about two lines of a 6-second skim to land them. Fragments and paragraphs both lose.

Frequently asked

Is this experience bullet scorer really free?

Yes — no email, no signup, no payment. Paste your top LinkedIn experience bullets and the score, the signals, and your first fix appear instantly. It's the fastest way to try Standout before the $1 full-profile review.

What does the score measure?

Seven signals recruiters and LinkedIn search both reward: at least 3 bullets, a strong action-verb opener on every one ("Led", "Grew", "Cut" — never "Responsible for"), quantified proof (numbers, %, $), named tools and skills recruiters filter by, a 1–2 line length per bullet, no duty language, and no filler phrases like "results-driven".

Are the bullets I paste stored or sent anywhere?

No. Scoring runs entirely in your browser — there is no server call, so nothing you paste is uploaded, saved, or seen by anyone.

How is this different from resume bullet examples?

Example lists show you someone else's rewrite and leave you to reverse-engineer why it works. This scorer grades YOUR actual bullets against the same rules those examples follow, and hands you the exact fixes in priority order — so you know precisely what's costing you recruiter skims.

What's the difference between this and the $1 review?

This tool scores one section — your experience bullets — and shows you one fix free. The $1 review analyzes your whole profile and hands you three paste-ready rewrites: a keyword-optimized headline, a rewritten About section, and your top 3 experience bullets, delivered instantly.

How do I add bullet points to my LinkedIn experience section?

LinkedIn's editor has no bullet button — a bullet is just the • character at the start of a line. On a Mac, press Option+8. On a Windows PC, hold Alt and type 0149 on the numeric keypad (or press the Windows key + . to open the symbol picker). Easiest of all: copy • from this page and paste it. One bullet per line, each opening with a strong verb.

How many bullets should each LinkedIn role have?

Three to five for your current role, two to three for older ones — and put the strongest first, because recruiters skim top-down. Fewer than three reads as thin; more than five reads as a duty dump. The scorer above grades exactly these signals.

Should my LinkedIn bullets match my resume bullets?

Start from the same achievements, but rewrite for LinkedIn: named tools and skills matter more because LinkedIn Recruiter filters on them, first person is fine, and each bullet gets about two lines of a 6-second skim. A resume bullet stripped of its keywords ranks nowhere here.
