15 LinkedIn About section examples that get replies

Recruiters find profiles by keyword — but the About section is where they decide to message you. It’s the largest block of searchable text on your profile (2,600 characters), fully indexed by LinkedIn search, and only its first three lines show before “see more.”

That means recruiter keywords belong in the opening lines, not paragraph three — and the section should cover the keyword variations your 220-character headline can’t. Below: 15 before-and-after rewrites across five role types, and the search terms each one captures.

What every searchable About section does

Front-loads the keywords

Only the first ~3 lines show before “see more” — in search and on your profile. Role, top skills and one proof point go in those lines, not in paragraph three.

Covers keyword variations

Your headline has 220 characters; the About section has 2,600. Use it to catch the variations — “data analyst” in the headline, “reporting, dashboards, SQL” in the About.

Ends with a call to action

Say which roles you want and how to reach you. Recruiters scan for intent — a profile that names its target role gets messaged for that role.

Software & engineering

Stack keywords do the ranking; one quantified project does the convincing. Both belong in the first three lines.
